It's Wednesday - and you know what that means! I was a slacker last week and did not weigh-in. Sometimes, I don't go weigh in because I'm afraid, but honestly and truly, last Wednesday I didn't go because it was raining and cold. No joke. Turns out it was also rainy and cold today, but I braved it.
Drum roll please.....

In case you missed Megan's beautiful post from last Thursday about our dear friend Holly and her recent diagnosis of stage 2 breast cancer, you may want to start here. As a follow up to that post and in light of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I wanted to put together some links to great resources for those of you who are facing a breast cancer diagnosis or know someone facing this battle or even if you may be concerned about your own risk for eventually having breast cancer.
Megan alluded to my previous work with the Lexington Affiliate of Komen for the Cure which, while far from making me an expert, connected me with lots of amazing folks who are experts. So if you're in central or eastern Kentucky, the folks in Lexington are working for you - this affiliate serves 58 counties (nearly half the state!) stretching in all directions from Lexington.
My work there also connected me with some super strong survivors and made me increasingly aware of the risk that I, or someone I loved, would very likely face this disease. Enter Holly as a not-so-gentle reminder that this risk is out there and it's real - even for young women.
So what are the statistics?

You guys... it's Weigh-In Wednesday. But this week, I'm not just weighing in with my actual poundage, but on some other topics of interest. Let's be serious - there isn't always a whole lot to say about weight loss. I want some cake, I'm sad watermelon season is almost over, and I really love these things:

Oh, hi! Remember me? I used to post here. :)
Last week, Jack and I took a long overdue trip to see my friend, Kelly, who lives in Cheyenne, Wyoming. We had an absolutely amazing time and she and her boyfriend, Casey, were the consummate hosts, putting up with us for a whole 7 days in their house.
I was amazed by the beauty of the area. It was unlike anything I had ever seen before - flat plains for hundreds of miles and then beautiful mountains! Our trip illustrated "purple mountain majesty" and was something I won't soon forget.
|Just one of the many beautiful views|
Highlights included an overnight trip to Saratoga Resort and Spa, where we got to experience hot springs for the first time . We also took in a Rockies game, which was super fun, despite their losing effort. And finally - we saw Peyton Manning tie an NFL record by throwing SEVEN touchdown passes during the NFL Kickoff game against the Baltimore Ravens. (Let's just say my Tennessee football fan husband was BESIDE HIMSELF!)
Here are some photo highlights. Thanks again to Kelly and Casey!

Everyone always does "summer reading" lists. Well, I say that Fall is the time to read. Nice, crisp days where you can take some coffee out onto the patio and enjoy a great read. I also wanted to do a book post to update you on what's happening in my reading life, and needed a theme. So there ya go.
My last book post was back in May - and it's time for an update. Amazingly enough, I am on track (per my Goodreads challenge) to read more books this year than I did last year during The Year of the Book. Ironic? Yes. Awesome? Also yes.
Here we go:
